How to naturally decaffeinate tea yourself (A handy way to remove most caffeine from regular tea)
Caffeine is highly soluble in water and is one of the first parts of the leaf to be extracted when steeping. It is known that up to 80% of the tea leave's caffeine content will be removed in the first 20 - 30 seconds of steeping. If you let the tea steep for up to 30 or 40 seconds then drain off the hot water, and replace with a similar amount of fresh hot water you should not taste much difference at all. This means that you can still enjoy your favorite teas, only without the majority of its natural caffeine.
Storing Tea
It is important to store your tea properly, whether it is tea bags or loose tea. Tea that isn't stored or packaged properly will easily absorb odours and moisture, which in turn will change the taste. To avoid this please make sure to store your tea in a cool dry place. The bags that we use at Hina’s Tea are perfect for this, they do not let in light which could make it dry out and degrade the taste and they have a Ziploc closure which makes it easy for you to re-seal the bags.
Organic Food Benefits
There is an old saying: "You are what you eat!" In today's modern society, that could not be any more true. It is now widely known that what we eat directly impacts upon our everyday health. Pesticides damage cells, additives make our children hyperactive. The alternative to the tasteless, mass produced food found in most supermarkets is to go organic! Find out a few reasons why making the switch is good for you and your family.
Organic Food Is Healthy
According to research, organically produced food contains higher levels of vitamin C and essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron as well as health-boosting, cancer-fighting antioxidants.
From Additives
Because of the strict rules set by the Soil Association, you will find that organic food doesn't contain food additives that are known to cause many common health problems such as heart disease, osteoporosis and hyperactivity. The Soil Association have banned a wide range of food additives including hydrogenated fat, the artificial sweetener aspartame and monosodium glutamate.
Higher Quality
Organic food comes from trusted sources. All organic farms and food companies are inspected at least once a year. The standards for organic food are laid down in European law.
Better Tasting Food
Many people and top chefs recommend organic food because they say it tastes better.
Environmentally Friendly
The UK government reckons that organic food is beneficial for wildlife as it eliminates pollution from sprays, produces less carbon dioxide and creates much less dangerous wastes.
No More Pesticides
Over 400 chemical pesticides are routinely used in conventional farming, which filter into our water supply and are often found to be present in what we eat. A study commissioned by the UK government found unusually high levels of pesticide residues in a variety of food stuffs such as baby food, spinach, dried fruit, bread, apples, celery, and chips.
Anti-GM
The Soil Association's Organic Standard does not allow genetically modified (GM) crops of any sort, so you can rest assured that what you eat has not been tinkered with.
Drug Free Food
Scientists are expressing their concern with regards the use of antibiotics on farm animals. It is their belief that such high use of antibiotics will have detrimental effects on human health. You'll be pleased to know that the Soil Association Organic Standard prohibits the routine use of antibiotics on farmed animals.
